How to setup SSL and HTTPS for a WordPress site

Once the installation of WordPress is done then we can start setting up HTTPS and SSL on website. Converting a website from HTTP to HTTPS we need a SSL certificate in the name of domain. Then we can install it on the server where the website is hosted. Let’s take a look at the steps

  1. Generate a SSL certificate from a CA website
  2. Add the certificates in the server SSL Manager
  3. Change the WordPress website permalinks from HTTP to HTTPS.

Most of the owners choose WordPress sites to be hosted in shared-hosting servers and they provide a control panel (cPanel) for your website. This cPanel gives accessibility to enable or disable all the features and components of your website. Once you have downloaded the certificate then login to your website cPanel and go to SSL/TTL manager.

Copy the above text and paste it in the respective certificate boxes in cPanel and click on Install certificates

We have completed generating a SSL certificate and then importing it in website. We are left out with the configuration of the URL in WordPress. Also we have to redirect the URL from HTTP to HTTPS.

Since we have added the certificate now there are many ways to redirect the website from HTTP to HTTPS. I will tell you the easiest way. There are two steps involved in this process.

  1. Download a plugin WP Force SSL Plugin
  2. Changes in Setting -> General

Install the above plugin and make the changes as shown above. Refresh the page and you will see HTTPS added before your website.
